LAKE OWEN ASSOCIATON (LOA) 

ANNUAL MEETING JULY 14, 2018 

CABLE COMMUNITY CENTRE  

Board members present:  Tom Johnson, Jon Nymo, Dave Berg, Terry Miller, Mike Yankee, Bill Hannaford, Ralph Owen, Jodi Pfaff-Gillman, Tami Rhodes.  Absent:  Amy Louis.  

LOA members present 60  

Meeting called to order by President Tom Johnson at 9:04AM.  

Minutes from July 15, 2017 meeting were reviewed and approved.  

Bill Hannaford presented the Treasurer’s report and the 2019 budget.  The Treasurer’s report and budget were approved.  

Annual meeting speakers presented topics as follows:  

-Dr. Randy Lehr – Update on lake management activities and ongoing plans. 

-Dave Berg – Updated on Midland Energy LP Gas deal.  Contact Steve Thurber or Randy Knapp   for fill.  There are two offers: 1.  In July if your tank is at 50% or below the summer rate is $1.29 per gallon. 2. The August 1, 2018-April 30, 2019 price is $1.39 per gallon.  Dave also asked if anyone would be interested in having him look into a group deal on generator maintenance. 

-Paul Rhodes is our new Lake Owen fishing representative.  (A BIG thank you to Gary Nei who   has held this title for a number of years!)  Paul reported on the stocking efforts by the DNR   and tribal stocking along with several other fish topics. 

-Jon Nymo – Gave an update on the Lake Owen book “close out” sale. 

- Terry Miller/Jon Nymo – updates on the social activities: 

   A.  LOA picnic will be held July 14, 2018 @5:30pm at the NFS North Day picnic site.  It will be            catered by Old Southern BBQ (pork, ribs, beans and coleslaw).  Members are asked to bring a salad or dessert to share along with their own beverages.  

   B.  The LOA golf outing will be held at TOIX August 22, 2018.  It will be a shotgun start beginning at 10:00AM.  An entry fee of $25.00 will be charged per golfer.  Members are asked to contact Jon Nymo to register.  The event will be limited to a maximum of 40 golfers.  Lunch and awards to follow golf. 

   C.  Fall raft up scheduled for September 22, 2018 at 3:00pm.  Please bring an appetizer to Share and your beverage of choice.  Rain date is September 23, 2018.  

Nominations for LOA Board of Directors (3 year terms)
Tom Johnson asked for nominations from the floor and then a motion to renew the board members whose terms were up (Dave Berg, Jon Nymo and Ralph Owen) for another three year term.   In addition, Jill Hendry Stoebe was elected to a three year term.  Outgoing board member Tami Rhodes was thanked for her board and secretary service.  

In other matters, Jim Erickson asked if a board seat was still open he would be willing to serve.  He thought it would be important to have a representative from the condominiums on the LOA Board.  The board nominations were then reopened and Jim Erickson was elected to the board.

Meeting called to order by President Tom Johnson at 9:00 A.M. 

Minutes from July 16, 2016 annual meeting reviewed and approved.

Bill Hannaford presented the Treasurer’s report and the 2018 budget. The Treasurer’s report and budget were approved. 

Annual meeting speakers presented topics as follows: 

- Dr. Randy Lehr- Update on Yellow Flag Iris, ordinary high water mark and impact of boat wake on lake shoreline and property, beach closure due to e coli at the campground.

- Dave Berg- Update on lake monitoring of landings, Midland Energy LP Gas and Mosquito Squad LOA purchase discounts.

- Gary Nei- Tom Johnson read a report on Lake Owen fishing written by Gary Nei.

- Ralph Owen- Update on the AED purchase and training.

- Terry Miller- updated on Social activities:

a. LOA picnic will be held July 15 at 5:00 PM. It will be catered again by Big Bud’s BBQ (pork, ribs and beans). Members are asked to bring a salad or desert to share along with their own beverages.

b. The LOA golf outing will be held at TOIX August 23rd, 2017. Start time at 9:30 AM. A $25 entry fee will be charged per golfer. Members are to contact Jon Nymo to register. The golf event is limited to a maximum of 40 golfers.

c. The fall raft up will be held in September with a date to be determined.

Nomination for LOA Board of Directors (3 year terms). 

Tom Johnson asked for nominations from the floor and then for a motion to renew the board members whose terms were up (Jodi Pfaff-Gillman, Tom Johnson, Mike Yankee) for another three year term. Motion to reelect the three directors was approved by voice vote.

Meeting called to order by President Tom Johnson at 9:05 A.M.  

Special recognition of Dr. Tim Louis by Bruce Hendry  

Minutes from 2015 annual meeting reviewed and approved  

Bill Hannaford presented the Treasurer’s report and the 2017 budget. The Treasurer’s report and budget were approved.  

Annual meeting speakers presented topics as follows:  

  • · Dr. Randy Lehr-Update on Yellow Flag Iris, high water impact on lake shoreline and property, and future lake management goals.  
  • · Jodi Pfaff Gillman-Update on Act 55, shoreline zoning.  
  • · Gary Nei- Fisheries report  
  • ·  Dave Berg- Update on the Snowmobile trail, Lake monitoring on landings, Midland Energy LP Co-op and Mosquito Squad group purchase.  
  • · Tom Johnson-presented information regarding group purchase of AED’s. Later, Dr. Rob Puls highlighted the importance of AED’s and CPR training for Lake Owen residents.  
  • ·Terry Miller and Jon Nymo- Social activities 

a. Pontoon raft-up scheduled for Sept. 17 (rain date Sept. 18) 

b. LOA picnic will be held July 16th at 5:00 PM. It will be catered by Big Bud’s BBQ (pork, ribs, beans and coleslaw). Members are asked to bring a salad or desert to share with their own beverages. 

c. The LOA golf outing will be held at TOIX on August 24th, 2016. Start time at 10:00 AM. A $25 entry fee will be charged per golfer. Members are to contact Jon Nymo if they wish to golf. A minimum of 40 golfers. 

Tom Johnson presented a motion to nominate Terry Miller, Bill Hannaford and Amy Louis for the LOA Board of Directors for a three year term. There were no other nominations from the floor. This motion was approved by the membership by voice vote.

Meeting called to order by President Jon Nymo at 9:05AM. 

Minutes from 2014 annual meeting reviewed and approved. 

Bill Hannaford presented the Treasurer’s report and the 2016 budget.  The Treasurer’s report and budget were approved. 

Jon Nymo presented a report on the “Looking Back at Lake Owen” book and special coupon offer.  A discount on the book from $70 to $50 will be offered to LOA members through August 15, 2015 at Redberry Books. Additionally, Sharon Dana was recognized for her great work in designing the book. 

Annual meeting speakers presented topics as follows:

Tom Johnson - Water quality and status of shoreline zoning in Wisconsin budget bill

  • Dr. Randy Lehr – Update on Comprehensive Management Plan and status of Lake Owen
  • Gary Nei – Fisheries report
  • Terry Miller – Social activities

a.  Summer pontoon party rescheduled for July 12, 2015 at 4:00PM

b.  The LOA picnic will be July 18, 2015 at 4:30PM.  It will be catered by Big Bud’s Barbecue (pork, ribs, beans and coleslaw).  Members are asked to bring a salad or dessert to share along with their own snacks and beverages.  They should RSVP to Bill Hannaford with the amount attending.  In case of rain,  it will be held at the Cable Community Centre.

c.  The LOA golf outing will be held at TOIX on August 19, 2015.  A $25 entry fee will be charged per golfer.   Members are to contact Jon Nymo if they wish to golf.  More details to follow.

d.  Fall pontoon party will be held on September 12, 2015 at 3:00PM.

  • Dave Berg – Mosquito Squad and Superior Propane group purchase updates.  Note that Superior Propane has offered a summer fill rate of $.85/gallon through August 31, 2015 for those who are currently in the Lake Owen buying group. 

Jon Nymo presented a motion to ratify a by-law change to increase the number of board members to a range of 7-11.  This motion was approved by the membership.  Jon then presented a slate of new directors consisting of Amy Louis, Jodi Pfaff Gillman and Tami Rhodes.  There were no other nominations from the floor.  The slate as presented was approved by voice vote.  Jon did recognize outgoing board members Kathi Jensen and Bob Sorenson. 

Jon Nymo presented Tom Johnson as the incoming President of the LOA.  Tom thanked Jon for his service as President and willingness to continue serving on the board.  He also asked the membership to become involved in the LOA and let board members know of any concerns or suggestions that they may have.
